The following are the minimum pre-requisites for recognition of a School of Nursing offering Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery Course. An organization that desires to start a School of Nursing has to furnish the following documentary proof to the Council and comply with the following conditions, namely:- (i) Any organization under the Central Government, State Government, Local Body or a Private or Public Trust, Mission, or a Voluntary Organization registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literacy, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act (12 of 1955) or the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Central Act 21 of 1860) or a Company registered under the Company's Act, 1956 (Central Act 1 of 1956) wishes to open a School of Nursing, should obtain a No Objection/Essentiality Certificate from the State Government at the first instance. (ii) There after they shall apply to the Indian Nursing Council for permission to start the School of Nursing. (iii) The Indian Nursing Council, on receipt of the proposal from the institution to start School of Nursing, undertake the first inspection to assess suitability with regard to physical infrastructure, clinical facility and teaching faculty in order to give permission to start the programme. (iv) After the receipt of such permission to start the School of Nursing from Indian Nursing Council, the Council shall conduct a detailed inspection of the physical facilities of the school and hostel, clinical facilities of the parent hospital and affiliated hospital, faculty and other staff position, to start the General Nursing Programme. At the time of the inspection, the institution should produce the original title deed (document) of the land available exclusively for the School of Nursing. (v) The institution shall admit the students only after receiving the approval from the Council. (vi) The institution shall follow the directions issued by the Indian Nursing Council, the Council and the Government from time to time. (vii) The Council shall also conduct inspection of the institution every year till the first batch completes the programme and see that all the facilities required are provided. The institution shall provide all the facilities as per the Council norms, thereafter, periodical inspection shall be conducted by the Council at least once in two years.
