(1) Infrastructure (a) The School of Nursing should have separate building. (b) Minimum land area required for a school of nursing is three acres owned and possessed by the applicant. (c) For a school with an annual admission capacity of twenty students, the constructed area of the school should be 4000 (four thousand) square feet. For every additional ten seats, an additional constructed area of 2000 (two thousand) square feet should be added. (2) The minimum physical facilities which are required in the school are listed below: (i) Class rooms.- There should be at least four class rooms with the capacity for accommodating the number of students admitted in each batch. The rooms should be well ventilated with proper lighting system. There should be built in black/green/white boards. Also there should be space to accommodate a desk/diaz. A big table and a chair for the teacher and racks/cupboards for keeping teaching aids or any other equipment needed to conduct the classes also should be there. There should be enough space for providing proper and adequate seating facilities for the students in the class. (ii) Laboratories.- There should be at least four laboratories as listed below: (a) Nursing Practice Laboratory.- There should be demonstration beds in proportion to the number of students practicing a nursing procedure at a given point of time (the desired ratio being 1 bed: 6 practicing students). It should be fully equipped with built-in cupboards and racks. One wash-basin and one zinc with running water supply, adequate furniture like table, chairs, electric fittings and inventory articles should be there in adequate numbers i.e., 10-12 sets of all items needed for the practice of nursing procedure by the students. (b) Community Practice Laboratory.- It should have all articles required for practicing nursing procedures in a community set-up. There should be sufficient number of community bags (one bag for two students), (c) Nutrition Laboratory.- It should have facilities for imparting basic knowledge about food and to practice the cooking for the healthy as well as for the sick. The furnishing and equipment should include work-tables, cooking stoves, gas connection/fittings, wash-basins with running water supply, cutlery, trays, plates, weighing machines, cooking utensils, racks/shelves, refrigerator, pressure cooker, mixie and cupboards for storage of food items. The food items shall be purchased for the conduct of practical classes as and when required. Sets of crockery and cutlery for preparation, serving and display of food also should be there. (d) Computer Laboratory.- A computer laboratory should be set up in 1:10 ratio. (iii) Auditorium.- Auditorium should be spacious enough to accommodate 400 to 500 persons at a time. It should have proper stage with green room and toilet facilities. It should be well ventilated and have proper lighting system. There should be arrangements for the use of all kinds of basic and advanced audio-visual aids. (iv) Multi-purpose Hall.- It should have a multipurpose hall for conducting examinations and related activities. (v) Library.- (a) There should be separate library in the school. It should be easily accessible to the teaching faculty and the students. It should have comfortable seating arrangement for half of the total strength of the students and teachers in the school. There should be separate budget for the library. The library committee should meet regularly for keeping the library updated with current books and journals. (b) The library should have proper lighting facilities and should be well-ventilated. It should have a cabin for librarian with intercom phone facility. There should be sufficient number of cupboards, book shelves and racks with glass doors for proper and safe storage of books, magazines, journals, newspapers and other literature. There should be provision for catalogue-cabinets, book display racks, bulletin boards and stationery items like index cards, borrowers cards, labels and registers. Current books, magazines, journals, newspaper and other literature should be available in the library. Internet facilities shall be made available. (c) A minimum of 500 (five hundred) books on nursing and allied subjects (latest edition), 3 nursing journals, 3 magazines, 2 newspapers and other kinds of current health related literature should be available in the library.
