(1) He shall supervise ward, barrack, and cell In-charges at the unlocking, the mid day count, at locking-up, and distribution for labour in the morning and afternoon. (2) He shall ascertain from the female warder once in the forenoon and once in the afternoon that the count is correct and all is well. (3) He shall visit all the wards/barracks/cells during his duty hours and satisfy himself that the guarding personnel and convict watchman are present at their posts and are on the alert. (4) He shall supervise the distribution of food and the conservancy arrangements. (5) He shall cause all grills, gratings, doors, locks, or other openings of enclosures and barracks in which prisoners are confined, to be secured, and satisfy himself by personal inspection that they are secure and if there are any discrepancies, to report the same. (6) He shall pay surprise visits to all gangs (group of prisoners deployed on work) working inside the prison and count and check the number of prisoners in each gang from the gangbooks. He shall satisfy himself during his rounds that the guarding personnel keep all prisoners within sight and employ them as per labour allotted to them and shall report any disobedience of the rules and regulations to the Deputy Superintendent (Security). (7) He shall regulate the movements of prisoners going on court appearance, interview, canteen and hospital etc. in a disciplined manner.
