(1) He shall ensure that guarding personnel are vigilant on their respective duties. (2) He shall ensure his presence at the time of lock-out and lock up of the wards, cells, barracks under his charge and cause the search of the prisoners confined therein at the time of lockup and also at uncertain times. He shall cause the thorough search of wards/cells/barracks under his charge at least once a week. (3) He shall record in his own hand the result of every such search of the wards and prisoners in the search book. (4) He shall not entrust any register/return/document to any prisoner for writing. (5) He shall treat the prisoners with tact, humanitarian kindness and firmness. (6) He shall ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the wards, cells, barracks as well as the prisoners under his charge. He shall also ensure that all prisoners take regular bath, keep short hair and beard (or are clean-shaven), wear clean clothes/ prison uniform and the blankets and bed-sheets are regularly washed and kept clean. (7) He shall ensure that medical treatment to the ill inmates of wards under his executive charge is being duly provided. (8) He shall supervise games, sports, yoga, education, vocational training, and other correctional/cultural activities, etc. for the prisoners under his charge. (9) He shall perform other duties relating to prisoners under the control of Deputy Superintendent which shall include maintenance of discipline and order amongst the prisoners (duties as in charge of the Central Control Room), management of guarding personnel (duties as Line Officer), maintenance of prison garden and dairy, maintenance of warrants of prisoners, maintenance of registers concerned, admission and release of prisoners, production of prisoners before trial Courts and to ensure security measures during their transit, transfer of prisoners, preparing parole/ furlough cases of the convicts, timely submission of reply of writ petitions, judicial appraisal of the punishments awarded to the convicts, etc. NOTE.— Every report made by the Assistant Superintendent or Sub Assistant Superintendent during the performance of his duties shall be put up before the Deputy Superintendent who shall put up the report before the Superintendent with his remarks for final orders of the Superintendent.
