(1) The Government shall, by notification in the Official Gazette, notify the prisons to be called the central prison. (2) There shall be one or more central prisons in which ordinarily convicted criminal prisoners shall be received to undergo their sentence, by transfer from any other prison and may accommodate undertrial prisoners for administrative purposes. (3) All central prison shall be fully equipped for imparting vocational training to convicts and for this purpose an adequate number of educational and instructional staff shall be posted. (4) The central prison shall also have industrial unit(s) with adequate infrastructure to provide adequate work avenues to the convicts. District prisons.
