(1) In the event of any prisoner showing signs of mental illness which, in the opinion of the Medical Officer are not feigned, the prisoner shall be referred to the Civil Surgeon for further examination. (2) If any prisoner is declared mentally ill, a report regarding his case shall be submitted to the Director General with a view to obtaining orders of Government or Mental Health Review Board for his removal to a mental health establishment. Following documents shall be forwarded with this report, namely – (a) A descriptive roll of the prisoner; and (b) Medical Certificate from Board of Doctors. NOTE.- The composition of the Board of Doctors shall be such as prescribed by the Government in the rules framed under the provisions of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017(Central Act 10 of 2017).
