(1) A female Medical Officer shall be deputed in the prison housing female prisoners. However, in case of non-availability, the Civil Surgeon shall depute a female medical officer to the prison for every week of such non-availability. In the absence of a female Medical Officer, the male prison Medical Officer shall look after sick female prisoners in the presence of a female staff member.The health screening of female prisoners shall also include a comprehensive examination to determine, - (a) the presence of gender-specific health conditions; (b) mental health care needs, including post-traumatic stress disorder and risk of suicide and self-harm; (c) reproductive health history of the female prisoner, including current or recent pregnancies, childbirth, and any related reproductive health issues; and (d) sexual abuse or any other form of violence that may have been suffered prior to admission. (2) An annual medical check-up of all female prisoners shall be conducted. (3) Female prisoners, especially victims of sexual abuse, suffering from psychosomatic and psychological disorders, and those having mental health issues shall be provided with proper counseling and medical treatment. (4) The right of female prisoners to medical confidentiality, including specifically the right not to share information and not to undergo screening in relation to their reproductive health history, shall be respected at all times. 1288 HARYANA GOVT. (6) Children shall be regularly examined by the Medical Officer to monitor their physical growth and shall be given timely vaccination. The vaccination chart of each child shall be maintained meticulously. Extra clothing and diet may also be provided to them on the recommendation of the Medical Officer. (7) When a female prisoner is found or suspected to be pregnant at the time of admission or later, the Medical Officer shall report the fact to the Superintendent. Arrangements shall be made at the earliest to get her medically examined at the District Government Hospital for ascertaining the pregnancy, state of health, duration of pregnancy, and the probable date of delivery. After ascertaining all necessary particulars, a detailed report shall be sent to the Director General. (8) Interim bail or temporary release application of pregnant female prisoners shall be moved by the Superintendent before the time of delivery. The prisoners who are neither granted interim bail nor released on a temporary basis shall be provided with proper pre-natal and post-natal care by the prison administration as per medical advice. An adequate and nutritious diet shall be provided to pregnant female prisoners, nursing mothers, infants and children admitted to the prison.
