Section 296

On the death of any prisoner, the medical officer shall forthwith record in the medical officer (in-charge) journal the following particulars, so far as they can be ascertained, namely :- (a) day on which the deceased first complained of illness or was observed to be ill; (b) labour, if any, on which he was engaged on that day; (c) scale of his diet on that day; (d) day on which he was admitted to hospital; (e) day on which the medical officer was first informed of the illness; (f) nature of the disease; (g) when the deceased was last seen before his death by the medical officer; (h) when the prisoner died; (i) physical examination of the dead body for any unusual appearance; (j) his opinion on probable cause of death; and (k) any other record information as per the directions of the Superintendent. Detailed report to be made to National Human Rights Commission and Director General.
