(1) Whenever a death takes place in a prison, immediate notice shall be sent to the Superintendent and the Medical Officer. (2) On the occurrence of death of a prisoner, the body shall, if life is extinct, be left in the position in which it was found until the arrival of the Medical Officer, police, and the Judicial Magistrate, and scene of occurrence shall not be tampered with: Provided that if it is not certain that death has taken place, measures shall be taken at once for providing first-aid to the prisoner and his treatment and revival. The prison staff shall make best efforts to provide quick and best health assistance to the prisoner as per the circumstances. (3) In the case of a prisoner found suspended by a rope made of cloth or any other material, in an attempt to commit suicide, and if there is reason to believe that he may still be alive, the body shall be raised at once to relieve pressure and shall be laid gently on the ground. All measures shall be taken to restore consciousness, without waiting for any assistance, however the assistance shall nonetheless be called for without delay.
