(1) An Agricultural Extension Programme Extension shall be established in the University and shall sub- Frogramme. j e c t t o t hc provisions in this Act and the Statutes make useful information based upon the findings of research available to farmers and others to help and solve their problems. It shall conduct demonstration and training programme for x the benefit of students, extension workers, cultivators and rural people. Increased agricultural production shall be the principal objective of all extension activities and these activities shall be co- 4 ordinated with the other functions of the University and other appropriate agencies of the State. (2) The Assam Agricultural University shall be responsible for the Agricultural extension educa­ tion activities in the State necessary to provide information and demonstrate prac­ tically to farmers and cultivators the findings and development of Agricultural, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary research to improve rural living and to increase agricultural production with special emphasis on food production and utilisation. EXTRAQRDINARY, JAN. 2, 1'^9 21 (3) In order that the University may conduct such educational activities, the State Government shall transfer to the University the necessary personnel, facilities and funds in accordance with a plan to be developed and mutually agreed upon by the Board and the State Government. (4) The Agricultural, Animal Husbandry and Vete­ rinary Extension Programmes shall be developed under the guidance of a Director of Extension and an Associate Director of Extension responsible to the Vice-Chancellor. Co-ordi n a- tion of function s. 35, (1) In consultation with the appropriate officers of the University, the Vice-Chancellor shall be responsible for taking such steps as may be necessary for the full co-ordination of teachings, research and extension activities of the University. (2) The Vice-Chancellor shall be responsible for the creation of conditions conducive to maxi­ mum progress in the development of new informa­ tion and technology in its natural, physical and social sciences and their inclusion in the curricula and application in practice throughout the State. (3) The University shall develop its programme of teaching, research and extension education keeping in view the needs of the State shall provide appropriate technical support and consultative advice to the State Government Departments engaged in Agricultural, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Development Work.
