(1) There shall be a Dean for each Faculty who shall be selected The Dean. by the Vice-Chancellor from amongst the Professors of the concerned Faculty and shall be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor with the approval of the Council. (2) The Dean shall be a whole-time officer of the University and shall act as the Chairman of the Faculty and shall be responsbile to the Vice- Chancellor for the faithful observance of the Statutes and the Regulations relating to the Faculty. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Dean shall work in close collaboration with other officers of the University and shall generally work through the Heads of Departments of the Faculty. (3) The salary, allowances and other conditions of service of the Dean shall be such as may be prescribed. (4) The Dean may, at the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor, be associated, directly or indirectly, with teaching, research, extension programme or any other activities within the Faculty. (5) The Dean shall hold office for a period of four years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for a further period of four years: Provided that no person shall hold office of the Dean for more than eight years in aggregate: Provided further that the Dean shall retire from the post if, during the term of his office including the term of re-appointment, he attains the age of sixty years.
