(1) The following persons shall be the members of Members the University, namely:— of the Univer- (i) the Chancellor, ex-officio; city and their (ii) the Vice-Chancellor. ex-officio; terms of office. (iii) the Secretary, Department of Education, Government of West Bengal, ex-officio; (iv) the Secretary, Department of Finance, Government of West Bengal, ex-officio; (v) the President, Board of Secondary Education, West Bengal, ex-officio; 6 The Rabinchyt Bhavatii Act, 1967, [West Ben. (vi) Principals of institutions established, maintained or managed by the University, ex-officio; ) three Heads of Departments of institutions estab- lished, maintained or managed by the University, not being Principals of such institutions, to be appointed by the Chancellor in accordance with provisions of sub-section (1) of section 10; one representative of Visva-Bharati to be appointed by the Chancellor on the recommendation of the Upacharya of Visva-Bharati; (ix) two representatives of the Rabindra Bharati Society, not being Principals or Teachers of any institution either established, maintained, managed or recog- nised by the University or affiliated to it, to be appointed by the Chancellor on the recommenda- tion of the President of the Rabindra Bharati Society; (x) the General Secretary of the Rabindra Bharati Society, ex-officio; (xi) the President, Bangiya Sahitya Parishad, ex-officio; (xii) the President, The Asiatic Society, ex-officio; (rill) the President, Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta, ex-officio; (xiv) former Vice-Chancellors of the University except those who may have expressed their unwillingness in writing to serve as members, ex-officio; (xv) two Principals of institutions affiliated to the Univer- sity to be appointed by the Chancellor- in accord- ance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 10; (xvi) not more than five persons, to be appointed by the Chancellor, having special knowledge or practical experience in respect of one or more of the follow- ing subjects, namely, Literature, Philosophy, History, Science, the Fine Arts, Music, Dance and Drama. (2) The persons referred to in clauses (1) to (v) and (x) to (xiii) of sub-section (1) shall be the first members of the University. (.?) As soon as may be after the University has been established, it shall take all necessary steps for the appoint- ment of the persons referred to in clauses (vi) to (ix), (xv" and (xvi) of sub-section (1), as members of the University. (4) A member of the University other than an ex-offieie member shall hold office for a term of two years from the date on which he is appointed: Provided that— (a) such term of two years shall be held to include any period which may elapse between the expiry of the said two years and the date of appointment of a new member in place of the member whose term of office expires; (5) the members referred to in. clause (vii) or clause (vi) or clause (vy) of sub-section (1) shall cease to hold office as such as soon as they cease to hold office as heads of departments of institutions or as Principals of institutions established, main- tained or managed by, or affiliated to, the University, as the case may be.
