A member of the Mayor-in-Council other than the Mayor shall hold office from the date of his taking the oath of secrecy as Deputy Mayor or as a member of the Mayor-in-Council, as the case may be, under sub-section (3) of section 16 until— (a) he ceases to be a member of the Corporation, or (b) he resigns his office by writing under his hand addressed to the Mayor in which case the resignation shall take effect from the date of its acceptance by the Mayor, or (c) he is removed from office by a written order of the Mayor, or (d) a newly elected Mayor, in the case of any casual vacancy caused by death, resignation, removal or otherwise, enters upon his office.
