(1) A person shall be eligible for admission to a course of study in the University if h has passed the Final Exa- mination held by the Board of Secondary Education, West Bengal, or an examination recognised under the Regulations as equivalent thereto, and possesses such further qualifica- tions as may be prescribed : Provided that until the said examination of the Board of Secondary Education is held, a person shall be eligible for admission to a course of study in the University if he has passed the Matriculation Examination of the University or an examination recognised under the Regulations as equivalent thereto. (2) Students may be admitted to a course of study for a diploma or certificate of the University under such condi- tions as may be prescribed by Ordinances. (3) Every candidate for a University examination shall, unless exempted from the provisions of this sub-section by a special order of the Syndicate made on the recommenda- tion of the Academic Council, be enrolled as a member of an Affiliated, Constituent, Professional or University College or a University Laboratory. Any such exemption may be made subject to such conditions as the Syndicate may think fit. (4) Students exempted under sub-section (3) shall be non- collegiate students of the University.
