(1) Any clerical error which may al any time be discovered in a register of birlhs or in a register of deaths may he corrected by any person authorised in this behalf by the Municipal Commissioner. (2) An error or Tact orsubslance in any such register may becorrccted by any person authorised as aforesaid by entry in llie margin, without any alteration of the original entry, upon production LO the Municipal Commissioner, by lhe person requiring such error to be corrected, or a declaration on oath setting forth lhe nature of the error and lhe faci oflhe case, made before a Magistrate by two persons required by this Act to give information conccrning the birth or death with reference to which the error has been made or, in default of such persons, by iwo persons having knowledge of the case, and certified by such Magistrate to have been made in his presence. (3) Except as aforesaid, no alteration shall be made in any such register.
