The Senate shall be an advisory body and subject to the provisions of this Act, it shall have the following powers and 'functions, namely:- (a) to review from time to time, the broad policies and programmes of the University and to suggest measures for the improvement and development of the University ; (b) to consider and pass res~rtions on the annual report and the annual accounts of the University and the audit it-port thereon; (c) to advise the Chancellor in respect of any matter which may be referred to it for advice and to perfonn such other duties and exercise such other functions as may be assigned to it by this Act or the Statutes or by the Chancellor; (d) to review from time to time the activities of the Syndicate and issue guidelines where necessary. Page 14 : (i) One Research scholar or Research Fellow of the University elected by such Research Scholars and Research Fellows, if there be any, in the manner prescribed; Explanation I: “Research Scholar" or ~“Research Fellow" shall mean ti whole time Research Scholar or Research Fellow ofthe University,‘ Explanation 1]: Notwithstanding anything contained elsewhere in this Act, a Research Scholar or Research Fellow elected wider this clause shall hold office for a period of two years from the date of his election or till the ceases to be a Research Scholar or Research Fellow ofthe University; - (j) one member elected by the members of the non-teaching staff of the University from amongst themselves and one member elected by the members of non-teaching staff of the affiliated Colleges from amongst themselves; V (k) one member elected by the officers of the University from amongst themselves; (1) one member elected by the Librarians of the University and of the Colleges affiliated to the University from amongst themselves; (m) two persons having special interest in the University, of whom one shall be a person representing the Professions of industry or agriculture and one shall be a person having interest in the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes community nominated by the Chancellor; (n) five registered graduates of the University living within the territorial jurisdiction of the University to be elected by such registered graduates from amongst themselves; , .Pr0vided that, until any such registered graduate from the Maharaja Bir Bikram University, to be established under this Act is available, the Tripura Univcrsity’s registered graduates living within the territorial jurisdiction of the Maharaja Bir Bikram University shall form the Registered Graduates’ constituency; Explanation I: Since all the Degree Colleges in Tripura have so far been and will remain afliliated to the Tripura University under Tripura University Act, 2006 till the appointed day, the F‘egisteree1' Graduates’ Constituency shall consist, initially ofthe Graduates ofthe Tripura U/llV6I‘.§'ll_]-’ set up under Tripura University Act, Z006 and Tripura University set up under Tripura University Act, 1 98 7, that is, until the Maharaja Bir Bikram University Graduates’ Constituency isformed; _ Explanation II: Allelections tothe Senate shall be held in the manner prescribed by Statutes.
