In section 24 of Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1982, in clause (e), fox the expression Save as otherwise provided, the members of the Syndicate other than the exsfficio members shall hold office for a period of three years ", the following shall be substituted, namely : - (((i) Save as otherwise provicied, the members of the Syndicate. other than the ex-oficfo members, shall hold oBce for a period of three years and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years. (ii) Where a member is elected or nominated to the 'syndicate to a' casual vacancy, the period of office hc Id for not less' than one year by any such member shall be construed as a. full period of three, ycars for the purpose of this clause. - hxpranatbn. .-For the purpose of this clause, the expression period" shall include the period of office held by any person prior to the date of the publication of the Tam1 Nadu Uniw rsitie s Laws (Szcond Amendmt nt) Act, 1991, in the Tamil -.#a& Gey~rnment Gazet~e , " . . . . . . . . .,; .,. -. Provided that for the purpose of this sub-section, a person who has held office for a period not less than one year in any one of the said thrq authorities in a casual vacancy &all be deemed to have held offim for a period of three years in that authority: Provided further that for the purpose bf this sub-section, if a person was dected or nominated to one authority and such person became a member of another authority by virtue of the membership in the ikst mentioned authority, the period for which he held office in the &st mentioned authority alone shall be taken into (0 exsflio members r e f d to in section 20 (a), Cfass I, but not includ- ing members of the Syndicate who are not otherwise niembers of the Senate referred to in item (13) ; and
