(1) The Chancellor shall, as soon as may be, after the first Vice-Chz ncellor is appointed under section 39 constitute tht Syndicate. (2) The Syndicate shall consist of the following memb~rs, namely :- I (a) the Vice-Chancellor ; I (b)l[three persons] from amoug the Deans and Directors of the University nominated by rotation by the Chancellor ; (c) two teachers other than Deans and Directors of the University elected from among themselves ; (d) two officers of the Government from the department dealing with the subject of technical education, nomjnated by the Government ; (e) four persons representing public and private ectors, industries and research institutions having special Imowledge and practical experience in industry and commerce, nominated by the Chancellor ; y) one member elected by the Academiocouncil from among its members ; (g) one member elected b the member1 of the and 1 Legislative Assembly of the State from among themselves; (h) one member elected by the members of the Lagislative Council of the State from among themselves. (3) The Vice-Chancellor shall be the ex-oficio Chairman of the Syndicate. I I Provided t b t a, member of the Legislative Assembly of the State or of the Legislative Council of the State shall cease to be a member of the Syndicate from the date on wbich he ceases to be a member of the Legislative Assembly of the State or of the Legislative Council of the State, as tho me may be : l[Provided further that where a member is elected or nominated to the Syndicate to a casual vacancy, the period of office held by any such member shall be construed as a full term of three years fol the purpose of this sub-section. Explanation.-For the purposes of th.is subsection, the expression "term" shall include the term held prior to the 21st December 1981.1 (5) The members of the Syndicate shall not bb entitled to receive any remunerationfrom the University except such daily and travelling allowances as may be presoribed : Provided that nothing contained in this subsaction shall preclude any member from drawing his normal amoluments to which he is entitled by virtue of the office he holds. (6) A member of the Syndicate may tender resignation of his membership at any time before the term of his office expires. Such resignation shall be conveyed to the Chancellor by a letter in writing by the member, and the ~esignation shall t a b effect from the date of its acceptance by the Chancellor. 2[17-A. Act 30 Explanation I.-For the purpose of this sub-section, the expression 'cperiod" shall include the period held prior to the 21st December 1981. Explanation IZ.-For the purpose of computing the total period of six years referred to in this sub-section, the period of three years during which a person held office in any one authority either by election or by nomination and the period of three years during which he held office in another authority either by election or by nomination shall be taken into account and accordingly such person shall not be eligible for election or nomination to any one of the said two authorities : Provided that for the purposes of this sub-section if a person who has held office in any one of the said two authorities in a casual vacancy shall be deemed to have held office for a period of three years in that authority : Provided further that for the purposes of this sub-section, if a person was elected or nominated to one authority and such person became a member of the other authority by virtue of the membership in the first mentioned authority the period for which he held office in the first mentioned authority alone shall be taken into account. (2) Nothing in sub-section (1) shall have application in respect of- (i) ex-oficio members referred to in section 17 (2), clauses (a) to (d), (g) and (h); and I (ii) ex-oficio members referred'to in clause (1) of Statute 9 of Schedule 11.1 The Academic
