With a view to prevent, detect and investigate crime and for the enforcement of law and maintenance of order in trains passing through the railway lines area and other railway area, falling in its jurisdiction, the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, create one or more special railway police districts, with required number of Railway Police Sub-Divisions and Railway Police Stations consisting of such railway lines and other railway areas in the State, as it may deem necessary and appoint a Senior Superintendent of Police, one or more Superintendents of Police, Assistant Superintendents of Police and Deputy Superintendents of Police and such other Police Officers for policing such districts, in such manner, as may be prescribed.
