(1) The University shall be open to persons of any gender and whatever race, class, caste or creed and it shall not be lawful for the University to adopt or impose, on any person, any test whatsoever of religious belief or profession or political opinion, in order to entitle him/her to be appointed as a teacher of the University, or to hold any office therein, or to be admitted as a Student of the University or to graduate there at or to enjoy or exercise any privilege thereof; (2) Nothing in this section shall be deemed to prevent the University from making special provisions for the appointment or admission of Women, or of persons belonging to the weaker sections of the society, and in particular, of persons belongings to the Scheduled Castes or the Scheduled Tribes; University open to all races, classes, castes and creeds. 238 LA GAZETTE DE L'ETAT [PART–II (3) French Nationals of Indian Origin, who have been permitted to enjoy long-term residence in the Union territory of Puducherry under the provisions of the Treaty of Cession, shall also be eligible for admission to the University. Explanation. — Treaty of Cession shall have the same meaning as assigned to it in the Puducherry (Administration) Act, 1962.
