Offences in respect of electoral rolls :– (1) Every person who by claiming a qualification which he knows that he does not possess to vote at a municipal election or by using false documents or by a false declaration or by any other deceitful means, procures or attempts to procure, the improper entry of the name whether of himself or of any other person in the electoral roll or the improper omission of any name therefrom shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three months or with fine or with both. (2) Every municipal officer or servant or polling officer 1[or any other officer, whether designated as Election Officer or otherwise, engaged in or associated with the work of preparation of electoral rolls pursuant to Section 13 of this Act], who wilfully makes or procures or attempts to make or procure any improper entry in the electoral roll or any improper omission therefrom, shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to six months or with fine or with both.
