Person convicted of election offences disqualified for voting and for being elected :– Every person, convicted of an offence punishable under this Chapter or under Chapter IX-A of Indian Penal Code (XLV of 1860), shall be disqualified from voting or from being elected in any election to which this Act applies or from holding 1[the office of 2[* * *] a Councillor] of a municipality for a period of 3[four years] from the date of his conviction or for such shorter period as the Court may, by order, determine.
