Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services- (1) There shall be a Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services in the State which shall be responsible for implementing the policies laid down by the State Government and the planning, organisation, direction, coordination and control of the Prisons and Correctional Services and matters connected therewith and incidental thereto. The Directorate shall consist of such number of officers and staff as may be prescribed by the Government from time to time. (2) The institutional set-up may be decided in accordance with the need and requirement for accommodating prisoners, the inmate population and the work-load of prison officers and staff. The work-force may include executive, ministerial, guarding staff, correctional officers and staff, medical personnel, etc., as may be prescribed under the relevant rules.
