Section 17

President.

( 1 ) The President shall be appointed by the sponsoring body for a period of three years, with the approval of the Government in such manner, as may be prescribed by rules. ( 2 ) The eligibility criteria for the post of President shall be such as may be prescribed by rules and Regulations. ( 3 ) The President shall be the Head of the university. ( 4 ) The President shall preside over at the meetings of the Governing Body and convocation of the university for conferring degrees, diplomas or other academic distinctions. ( 5 ) The President shall have the following powers, namely:- ( a ) to call for any information or record from any officer or authority of the university, relating to the affairs of the university; (b) to appoint the Vice-Chancellor; ( c ) to remove the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the provisions of section 20; ( d ) such other powers as may be prescribed by the Statutes.
