Members of societies.—(1) Every fisherman who permanently resides in a fisheries village or carries on fishing operations from or within a fisheries village and who— (a) has attained the age of eighteen years; and (b) is not of unsound mind, shall be deemed to be a member of the society constituted for that fisheries village. (2) The Fisheries Officer shall, subject to such rules as may be made in this behalf, prepare and publish in the prescribed manner a list of fisherman who are deemed to be members of the society as on the first day of September of each year: Provided that the Government may direct that in respect of any particular year such list shall be prepared with reference to such other date as may be specified in the notification.
