Definitions.--

(1) In this Scheme, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "Act" means the Kerala Co-operative Societies Act,1969 (21 of 1969); (b) "Rules" means the Kerala Co-operative Societies Rules, 1969; (c) "Government" means the Government of Kerala; (d) "Department" means the Department of Co-operation, Government of Kerala; (e) "Registrar" means the Registrar of Co-operative Societies appointed under sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Kerala Co-operative Societies Act, 1969; (f) "Fund" means the Co-operative Professional Education Fund referred to in Clause (cc) of sub-section 2 of Section 56 of the Kerala Co-operative Societies Act, [inserted by the Kerala Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Act, 2010] read with sub-rule (3A) of Rule 53 of the Kerala Co-operative Societies Rules, [inserted by the Kerala Co-operative Societies (Third Amendment) Rules, 2010]. (g) "Societies" means Co-operative Societies registered or deemed to be registered under the Act; (h) "CAPE" means the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education, Kerala registered by the Department of Co-operation, Government of Kerala under the Travancore, Cochin, Literary, Scientific & Charitable Societies Act,1955. (i) "Professional Education" means the process by which men and women prepare for exacting, responsible service in the professional spirit and it includes courses in Medicine, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Business Administration, Computer Application and Dentistry and the courses approved are MBBS, BDS, M.D., Medical P.G.Diploma Courses, B.Tech, B.Sc.Nursing, B.Pharm, M.B.A., M.C.A., Junior Diploma in Co-operation (JDC) Course conducted by the training centres under the State Cooperative Union and professional training programmes conducted by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies for its officers; (j) "Institution" means Professional education institution run by societies or by CAPE or institutions promoted by charitable societies or Trust, formed by Co-operative Institutions and it includes Pharmacy college run by the Kerala State Co-operative Consumers Federation Ltd. (k) "Academic Committee" - Government will constitute an Academic Committee to evaluate performance of the Institution. Committee will evaluate Academic Standards of the institute which submit application for financial assistance. (2) The words and expressions used but not defined in this scheme and defined in the Act shall have the same meanings respectively assigned to them in the Act.
