Compensation to be paid for damage to property of municipality. (1) Any person who has been convicted of any offence under this Act or the rules or the regulations made thereunder shall, without prejudice to any punishment to which he may be subject, be liable to pay such compensation for any damage to any property of the municipality resulting from such offence as the appropriate municipal authority may consider reasonable. (2) In the case of any dispute regarding the amount of compensation under sub- section (1), such amount shall, on an application, in writing, made by such person to the Magistrate who convicts such person of such offence, be determined by such Magistrate, and, if the amount of compensation so determined is not paid by such person, such amount shall be recovered under a warrant from such Magistrate as if it were a fine imposed by him on the person liable thereof.
