(1) All canteen operations/transactions shall be cashless. (2) Physical verification of the stock of canteen shall be conducted by the Deputy Superintendent (Industries and Welfare) in the first week of January and July and by the Superintendent in the first week of April and October every year. A certificate in this regard shall be sent to the Director General within one week of the physical verification. (3) The canteen shall not be run on commercial basis. It shall be run for the benefit and welfare of the prisoners and capital investment shall be made by prisoners themselves through deposit in their canteen account. The purchase of furniture, fittings and other equipment for the canteen may, however, be purchased out of the ‘Prison Inmate Welfare Fund’. (4) A balance sheet shall be prepared at the close of every quarter, and laid before the management committee for approval. One copy of the balance sheet shall be exhibited at the place near the canteen for information of prisoners. (5) All properties other than consumable articles of the canteen shall be entered in the property register and shall be verified quarterly by the Superintendent. (6) Detail instructions regarding day to day functioning of the canteen shall be issued by the Director General from time to time. Repeal and savings.
