A canteen shall be opened in every prison with the following objects, namely :- (a) to facilitate the supply of articles like eatables, daily use articles, personal hygiene articles, writing material, under garments, clothing, shoes etc. at reasonable prices; (b) to provide funds for sports, games, cultural activities, celebration of national festivals, other festivals and for other recreational purposes; and (c) for any other purpose as decided by the Director General from time to time.
