(1) Handcuffs may be imposed as instruments of restraint or by way of punishment for prison offences, weighing not more than five hundred grams or as per the specifications fixed by the Director General by way of a standing order from time to time. (2) Handcuffs may be imposed on the wrist in front, by day or night for a period of not more than twenty-four hours at a time, with intervals of not less than twenty-four hours between each period of handcuffing. If the handcuffs are applied on the wrist with hands behind, the handcuffs shall be removed after six hours and may be imposed after six hours minimum break for another six hours: Provided that this shall be restricted to cases where the prisoner has been guilty of repeated violence against self, another prisoner, or staff member. NOTE 1.- A prisoner while undergoing punishment in handcuffs shall be under complete shelter from the sun. NOTE 2.- Handcuffs may be removed when a prisoner wearing the same is to be produced in Court. Fetters.
