It shall be the duty of every Head Warder, Barrack in charge to,- (a) ensure safe and secure custody of all prisoners under his charge and shall ensure that no prisoner leaves his berth/barrack without permission and no prisoner from other barrack enters the barrack under his charge; (b) be well acquainted with all the prisoners under his charge, including his name, appearance, built and case detail; (c) superintend the warders subordinate to him in the discharge of their duties; 1360 HARYANA GOVT. (EXTRA.), DEC. 30, 2022 (PAUS. 9, 1944 SAKA) (d) assist in every possible way in the management of the prison; (e) take all possible measures to prevent escape; (f) maintain discipline amongst prisoners under his charge; (g) comply with the requirements of all laws, rules, regulations, directions, and orders in force as to the duties which he is to perform and the manner in which he is to perform them; (h) obey the lawful orders of all officers superior to him in rank; (i) open in the presence of the Deputy Superintendent (Security), Assistant Superintendent (Central Control Room), Head Warder (Central Control Room), the sleeping wards, cells, and other compartments each morning and count the prisoners and record their attendance; (j) distribute the prisoners, who are liable to labour each morning, to their respective work-gangs; (k) cause the name and prison-number of every prisoner placed in charge of any warder to be entered in the proper gangbook; (l) superintend the use of the baths, toilets; (m) check the prisoners at each change of guard and record the fact in the book/register specified for the purpose; (n) cause all gates, doors and the like to be closed and locked and satisfy himself from time to time that they are secure. (o) cause all bamboos, poles, ladders, ropes, and other articles likely to be used or to facilitate the escape of any prisoner to be removed and placed beyond the reach of the prisoners in places prescribed for safe-keeping the same. (p) keep constantly moving about while on duty, amongst the prisoners, supervising the work and discipline of the prison and keep guarding personnel and convict watchman on the alert. (q) in the presence of the Deputy Superintendent (Security), Assistant Superintendent (Central Control Room), Head Warder (Central Control Room), to count, search and lock up the prisoners in their respective wards, cells, and other compartments, at the prescribed time. (r) give an immediate alarm by blowing his whistle if a prisoner is missing, or if any disturbance takes place or appears to be imminent; (s) give information to superior officer concerned, of any plot made by prisoners to escape, or to commit any assault, or to make any outbreak, or to attempt suicide, or to obtain prohibited articles; (t) report defects and short comings in prison buildings, fan, lamp, wash basin, toilet walls, bars, locks and keys, handcuffs, other security equipment etc. and take immediate rectifying action; (u) observe habits and behaviour patterns of prisoners, especially sick prisoners and report the same to the authorities concerned, aiding the prisoners improve their habits and attitudes; (v) assist in care and welfare of prisoners; (w) ensure that prisoners under his charge report at Central Control Room within specified time for court appearance and hospital guard, Interview etc.; (x) ensure smooth distribution of food amongst the prisoners under his charge; (y) not to leave his post without being relieved; (z) ensure hygiene and cleanliness in the area and amongst prisoners under his charge; HARYANA GOVT.
