The scope of after-care assistance shall be determined by the discharged prisoners’ After Care and Rehabilitation Committee, and shall include the following, namely:– (a) liaison with and assistance to prisoner's family during the period he is serving sentence; (b) help in maintaining continuity in relationship with family, neighbors, employers and community; (c) preparing the family, employer and neighbors for receiving the individual after release; (d) liaison with local police to build trust and prevent harassment post release; (e) reference to a social service organization in the neighborhood where the prisoner is likely to settle after release; (f) communicating to the Panchayat/local authorities about the background, problems and needs of the released person. Getting the cooperation and help of the Panchayat, Community Development Officer, National Extension Service Worker and Gram Sevak, in the resettlement of the prisoner; (g) subsistence money to cover initial expenditure after release till such time the released person gets family support or secures employment; (h) temporary accommodation till housing arrangement is made; (i) assistance in securing employment, apprenticeship etc.; (j) supply of tools and trade equipment; (k) assistance in starting a cottage industry, any small business trade, a small or a stall; (l) providing medical treatment as per requirement; (m) placing the released person under the care of a person or family interested in his welfare and resettlement; (n) help in establishing contacts, acquaintance and friendship with reliable neighbors, co- residents or co- workers; (o) safeguards against recidivism.
