The Superintendent shall ensure to, - (a) arrange free legal aid for indigent prisoners through legal aid authority concerned; (b) arrange legal literacy classes in the prison in order to educate prisoners about their rights and duties as well as about the availability of free legal aid services; (c) employ the services of para legal volunteers and legal aid counsels may be taken to ascertain legal aid needs of prisoners; (d) inform and make the convicts aware of their right of appeal against conviction and preparation of petition and appeals; (e) assist competent authorities in holding special courts, legal services camps, and lok– Adalat; (f) properly maintain the record with respect to legal aid to prisoners including visits of legal aid counsels.
