(1) For the purpose of attendance on the sick, a few well conducted convicts of some education and long sentence shall be selected by the Superintendent or Deputy Superintendent (Administration) in consultation with the Medical Officers and trained as nursing orderlies. (2) The number of convicts employed as nursing orderlies shall ordinarily be in the proportion of one for every ten patients. At times of epidemics and other emergencies, this proportion may be increased: Provided that the Superintendent, if he thinks fit, may also depute a well behaved under trial prisoner as nursing orderly who is accustomed to such work and renders the services voluntarily.
