(1) Medical staff shall be posted in prisons by the Health Department of the State Government. (2) Casual leave may be granted to a Medical Officer by the Medical Officer (in charge). If there is only one Medical Officer available in a prison, his application for casual leave shall be forwarded by the Superintendent to the Civil Surgeon with the request to provide a substitute for the leave period. The Medical Officer (in charge) shall be competent to allow casual leave to all other Medical staff in accordance with the rules relating to the grant of such leave. In case a substitute from outside is required for the leave period, the Chief Medical Officer shall provide the same. (3) Medical Officers, Pharmacy Officers, Nursing staff or any other medical staff posted or attached to a prison shall not leave the prison precincts without permission of the Medical Officer (In charge), and the Medical Officer (In charge) shall need prior permission of the Superintendent before leaving the prison precincts.
