(1) The Director General, with the previous sanction of the Government, shall fix the scales of diet for prisoners. The diet may be fixed as per nutritional requirements in vogue and guidelines of the health authorities. He may from time to time:- (a) vary the scale of prison diet generally or that prescribed in respect of any prisoner; (b) prescribe a special scale of prison diet in respect of the prisoners confined in any prison or the prisons situated within any specified local area; and (c) prescribe a special scale of prison diet in respect of any period or periods during any season of the year. (2) It shall be the responsibility of the Government and the Director General to take all such measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of dietary articles as per the prescribed scale.
