(1) The Director General shall, from time to time, fix the scale of diet for prisoners during transit. Where the court in which the prisoner is to be produced is situated at the same station as the prison where the prisoner is lodged or at such distance from where he may be lodged back in the prison before evening meal on the same day, the Superintendent shall supply meals of cooked rations as nearly as possible as per scale before the commencement of the journey and the officer in charge of the escort shall ensure that prisoners receive the food in a timely manner. (2) When the court as aforesaid is situated at such distance from where the prisoner may not be lodged back in prison before evening meal on the same day, the Superintendent shall pay to the officer in charge of the police escort an allowance for each prisoner at the rate to be specified by the Director General from time to time for the purchase of food during transfer.
