(1) If any owner or occupier of a building fails to appoint Fire Safety Officer under section 22 within thirty days of the receipt of a notice given in this behalf by the Director or the Fire Officer, as the case may be, shall be deemed to be in default jointly and severally and shall be liable to pay such sum not less than ten rupees per square meter and not exceeding fifty rupees per square meter of the area owned or occupied including the common areas in the building as determined by the Director or any officer authorized by him for each month of default or part thereof. (2) The amount due as penalty under sub-section (1) shall be recovered as an arrear of land revenue. Penalty in case of non-appointment of Fire Safety Officer.
