Subject to the provisions of this Act and the regulations, the Academic Council shall have the following powers and duties, namely:- (i) to exercise control over the academic policies of the University and shall be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of standards of instruction, education and evaluation in the University; (ii) to consider matters of general academic interest either on its own initiative or on a reference from the Faculty of the University or the Board and to take appropriate action thereon; (iii) to recommend to the Board such Regulations as are consistent with this Act regarding the academic functioning of the University including discipline of students; and (iv) to exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed upon it by the Regulations or by the Board.
