Powers of Canal-Officer.— (1) For the purpose of the inquiries under section 61, such Canal-Officer may enter, or authorise any officer to enter upon any land adjacent to any canal to which this Part applies, and may survey, demarcate and make a map of the same. (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in section 61 where no sufficient evidence is forthcoming as to all or any of the matters specified in that sections such Canal-Officer shall, so far as may be, settle and record the aforesaid matters in such manner as he may deem fit.
