Certain offences punishable with fine.— (1) Whoever: (a) contravenes any of the provisions of this Act or of the rules made thereunder mentioned in the first column of the following table, or (b) fails to comply with any direction lawfully given to him or any requisition lawfully made upon him under any of the said provisions or rules, shall be 53punishable with a fine [liable to a penalty] which may extend to the amount mentioned in the third column of the said table. (2) Whoever after having been convicted of any offence under clause (a) or (b) of sub-section (1), continues to commit such offence shall be punished for each day after the first during which he continues so to offend, with fine which may extend to the amount mentioned in the fourth column of the said table. Explanation.— The entries in the second column of the following table headed --161-- "subject" are not intended as definitions of the offences described in the provisions mentioned in the first column, or even as abstracts of those provisions, but are inserted merely as references to the subject-matter thereof.
