Restriction on powers of municipal authorities in relation to street.— (1) The Corporation or the Commissioner shall not in respect of any street vested in the Government, grant permission to do any act the doing of which without the permission of the Corporation or the Commissioner is punishable under this Act or the rules or bye-laws made thereunder except with the previous sanction of the State Government which may accord its sanction either generally or in particular cases. (2) The Corporation or the Commissioner shall, if so required by the State Government, exercise in respect of such streets, all or any of the powers conferred by this Act upon the Corporation or the Commissioner, as the case may be.
