Creation of Awareness on disability related issues The appropriate Government and local authorities shall endeavour to – (a) ensure that effective and appropriate measures are taken to raise awareness in society, including at the family level, regarding persons with disabilities, and to foster respect and dignity of their person and rights; (b) combat prejudices and harmful practices relating to persons with disabilities, in all areas of life; (c) promote awareness about the capabilities and contributions of persons with disabilities by adopting measures such as initiating and maintaining public awareness campaigns which should be designed to nurture receptiveness to and attitude of respect for persons with disabilities, (d) promote positive perceptions, greater social awareness and recognition of the skills, merits and abilities of persons with disabilities and of their contributions to the work place; (e) encourage the media to portray persons with disabilities on equal basis with persons without disabilities; 84 105 New Provision
