In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "alienation" includes sale, gift, bequest under a will, mortgage, hypothecation, or lease; (b) "assignee" means a person to whom land is assigned under these rules and includes his heirs or successors in interest; (c) "assignment" means registry of lands under these rules without auctions; (d) "assigning authority" means the Tahsildar of the Taluk or a Special Tahsildar authorised by the Government for the purpose of assignment on registry of lands under these rules; (e) "colonist" means a person to whom land has been allotted under the Co-operative Colonisation Scheme or under the Ex-servicemen Co-operative Colonisation Scheme sponsored by the Government of India; (f) "occupant" means a person who is in possession of Government land, obtained by way of alienation by a colonist or by way of encroachment; (g) words and expressions used but not defined in these rules shall have the same meaning assigned to them in the Kerala Government Land Assignment Act, 1960 (30 of 1960).
