(1) Every tena nt who makes a pay ment on Rent ie account of rent to his landlord shall be entitled to ceipis. obtain forthwith from the landlord a written receipt signed by the landlord or his authorised agent. (2) The [State Government]4 may, by notifica tion, prescribe the form of the receipt to be given and require a landlord or any particular class of landlords to p repare and retain a counterfoil of the receipt. (3) In the absence of a notification under the last preceding clause, it will be sufficient for the receipt to show :— (a) the tena nt’s name ; (b) the annual rent of the holding ; (c) the am ount paid ; (</) the year or years on account r f which pay- me m ade ; («) the name of the persons making the payment and the date of payment ; ( / ) a description of the holding sufficient for its identification. (4) If the receipt does not contain substantially the particulars required by this section, it shall be persum ed, until the contrary is shown, to be an acquittance in full of all demands for rent up to the date on which the receipt was given.
