When a holding is advertised for sale— (a) under this Chapter in execution of a decree against a superior tenant defaulting, or Inferio r te­ nan t paving into Court ma y de du ct from rent. Bengal Act (b) in execution of a certificate signed under the III of J 913. Bengal Public Demands Recovery Act, 1913, for arrears of rent due in respect of the holding from a superior ten ant default­ ing, or when such sale is set aside under section 121, and an inferior tenant pays money in to Court in order to prevent or set aside the sale, as the case may be,«uch inferior tenant may, in addition to any other remedy provided for him by law, deduct the whole or any portion of the amount so paid from any rent payable by him to his imm ediate landlord ; an d that landlord, if he is not the defaulter, may, in like manner, deduct the amount so deducied from any rent payable by him to his immediaie landlord, and so on until the defaul­ ter is reached. *
