Whoever, with intent to cause damage or injury to the public or to any Person or to cause wrongful gain as defined in the Indian Penal Code. a. knowingly counterfeits upon any tree or timber a mark used by Forest Officers to indicate that such tree or timber is the Property of the [Government]r or of some Person, or that it may lawfully be felled or removed by some persons, or b. unlawfully affixes to any tree or timber a mark used by Forest Officers, or c. alters, defaces or obliterates any such mark placed on any tree or timber by or under the authority, of a Forest Officer, or alters, moves, destroys, or defaces any boundary mark of any forest or waste land to which any provisions of this Regulation apply, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term [which is not less than three years, and may extend to seven years or with fine which is not less than five thousand rupees or with both.] *{Substituted by 2005 (Amd) Act (Act no 2 of 2008. s.12
