Petitioners have approached this Court seeking a direction to respondent no.2 to provide necessary protection to their life and liberty from respondent nos.4 to 11. 3. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the petitioners belong to the same faith and, having developed an affinity towards each other, have solemnized their marriage and are presently residing together as husband and wife. It is further submitted that the marriage is not acceptable to the brothers and other family members of petitioner no.1, who are allegedly extending threats to the petitioners and seriously opposing their relationship. The petitioners, therefore, apprehend imminent threat to their life and limb at the hands of the private respondents and have approached this Court seeking protection. 4. Learned State Counsel, on instructions, submits that the local police made an effort to verify the whereabouts and safety of the petitioners by visiting the house of petitioner no.2; however, the premises were found UKHC010146402026 2026:UHC:7511 locked. It is further submitted that attempts were also made to contact the petitioners telephonically, but their mobile phones were found switched off. 5. Today, both the petitioners have joined the proceedings through Video Conferencing and have been duly identified by their respective learned counsel. The petitioners have been advised to furnish their current mobile phone numbers to the local police. 6. Learned State Counsel, on instructions, submits that the In-charge, Police Station Civil Lines, Roorkee, District Haridwar, shall provide a contact number to the petitioners, which may be used by them in the event of any threat or apprehension to their life and liberty. It is further stated that, upon receipt of any such information, the concerned police authorities shall take appropriate action in accordance with law and ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners are duly protected. 7. In view of the aforesaid statement and assurance, the writ petition stands disposed of accordingly.
