HEMALEKHA Digitally signed by MAHALAKSHMI B M Location: HIGH COURT OF KARNATAKA - 2 - HC-KAR NC: 2026:KHC:23775 WP No. 11814 of 2026 ORAL ORDER The petitioner has approached this Court seeking a writ of mandamus directing the respondent to consider the application dated 18.12.2025 (Annexure-A) for grant of a power connection to his newly constructed residential house. 2. The petitioner claims to be the owner and in possession of the property bearing Sy.No.33, measuring 10 cents. The petitioner acquired the said property by way of a registered partition deed dated 09.01.2024. Pursuant thereto, the petitioner filed an application before the respondent seeking power supply to his newly constructed residential house. It is stated that the respondent approved the power connection on 21.01.2026 and also conducted an inspection and submitted a report. Thereafter, the respondent prepared an estimate and issued a work order. - 3 - HC-KAR NC: 2026:KHC:23775 WP No. 11814 of 2026 3. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that, despite submission of the report on 21.01.2026 and completion of all procedural formalities, the respondent has not provided the power connection to the petitioner’s premises. 4. Per contra, learned counsel for the respondent submits that the application submitted by the petitioner seeking power connection to his residential premises shall be considered in accordance with law. 5. Having regard to the nature of the direction sought in the writ petition, and noting that the application was filed on 18.12.2025 and has remained unattended despite completion of all procedural requirements, this Court is of the opinion that electricity supply, being a basic necessity for a citizen, warrants appropriate directions. Accordingly, this Court passes the following: ORDER i. The writ petition is disposed of. - 4 - HC-KAR NC: 2026:KHC:23775 WP No. 11814 of 2026 ii. The mandamus is issued, respondent is directed to consider the application dated 18.12.2025 within a period of two (2) weeks from the date of receipt of the copy of this order in accordance with law.
