HC-KAR NC: 2026:KHC:19672 WP No. 6074 of 2026
THIS PETITION COMING ON FOR PRELIMINARY HEARING, THROUGH PHYSICAL HEARING/VIDEO CONFERENCING, THIS DAY, ORDER WAS MADE THEREIN AS UNDER:
CORAM: HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE M.I.ARUN
ORAL ORDER
1. The petitioners have requested for correction of the name of petitioner nos.2 and 3, i.e. parents of petitioner no.1 as follows in the birth certificate: Persons Current (Birth Certificate) To be change to Father name Lunkholen Haokip Lunkhel Lunkholen Haokip Mother name Ciinhaumang Ciin Hau Mang
2. However, the same has been rejected by respondent no.2 on the ground that it amounts to change in the complete name of the parents of the child and is not a mere correction. Aggrieved by the same, the present writ petition is filed.
3. The petitioners pray that a suitable direction may be issued to respondents-BBMP to change the name as requested. Reliance is also placed on the order of this Court in W.P.No.6370/2024.

HC-KAR NC: 2026:KHC:19672 WP No. 6074 of 2026
4.
Learned counsel for respondents-BBMP upon instructions fairly submits that, the writ petition may be disposed of in terms of the order passed in the aforementioned writ petition.
5. In the aforementioned writ petition, it has been held that concerned authority of BBMP is required to consider the request of the petitioner by conducting necessary enquiry as per Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 ('the Act' for short), read with relevant Rules and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law. I do not see any reason why a similar order should not be passed in the instant writ petition also.
6. Hence, the following:
ORDER i. Respondents are directed to consider the request of the petitioners by conducting the necessary enquiry as per Section 15 of the Act read with relevant Rules and also in the light of the order passed in W.P.No.6370/2024 and pass appropriate orders accordingly;
